An Incendiary Fire at Candor Interests That Town and Owego is Awakened to Help.
Owego, N.Y. Daily Record, May 12,1894
Special correspondence. CANDOR, —The alarm of fire at 3 o'clock this morning was for a blaze discovered in the plank building, owned and occupied as a milk depot by W. Lubeck. It was built as an elevator and put to that use for many years.
The citizens responded to the alarm and made such a vigorous fight with the fire engine and other means, that, although the Owego department was notified when it seemed impossible to save the D. L. & W. station and other buildings, it was found possible to subdue the fire without its help. The contents of the building were saved and the only loss sustained, about $1,200, which is covered by insurance, was on the building itself.

FIRE AT CANDOR: M. L. Ross' Drug Store and Lewis Starkweather's Meat Market Burned.
.CANDOR, N.Y., Owego Daily Record, 1901 or 2
Dec. 31.—(Special.)—An overheated stove in Lewis Starkweather's meat market caused a fire about 4:30 yesterday afternoon, which destroyed the building in which the market was located and in which Mr. Starkweather resided on the second floor and the M. L. Ross drug store and building. The fire spread rapidly and the two buildings and their contents were totally
destroyed. The Starkweather building was insured for $1,000, which about covered the loss on that but he had none on his stock or household goods, and thus is a loser. No estimate has been made on the value of the Ross building, but Mr. Ross carried $2,000 on stock and fixtures, which about covers his loss.

Union Springs Advertiser, 1900-1903
—A fire in Candor Monday destroyed the principal business portion of that village. Fire started in a meat market from a hot stove pipe which ran through the ceiling. Lots estimated from $5,000 to $10,000, partly covered by insurance. Candor suffered very heavily from the flood and to have the loss of its principal business houses immediately will make the calamity one hard to overcome.

Owego, N.Y. Daily Record 1902 or 3—A recent fire in Candor destroyed a barn which was near the residence of Editor Beebe of the Courier and this week's issue of the Courier comes out for water works and no delay. It is something Candor should have and probably she will before long.
