Candor—Coming events cast their shadows before.
With this in mind the Village of Candor is planning its second annual Mardi Gras Dec. 12 to raise funds to complete payment on the repairs and improvements made this fall at the Candor dam, which will provide the children and adults in Candor with a place to swim next summer. The Mardi Gras, an all-day affair, will open with a community auction at 10 a.m. in the school bus garage at the Candor Central School. Gerald Mead of Owego, well known in auctioneering circles, will have charge of the sales, which will feature the auctioning of personal services, as well as furniture, antiques, clothing and canned and backed goods.
Baby sitting, sidewalk shoveling, dish washing, gift wrapping, care of furnaces and other such services, much in demand, will be sold to the highest bidder. Students from the seventh grade through the senior high school will collect all articles donated for the sale, with a percentage of the returns from their collections to be returned to them as an award.
Concession stands, manned by the Candor American Legion and Auxiliary, the Candor Grange, Home Bureau units and church organizations, will sell refreshments throughout the day's program. A program of entertainment featuring local talent will be held in the school auditorium in the evening, climaxed by a costume dance to top the entire day.
